Abstract:This article summarizes surveys of the Fachgruppe Environmental Psychology in the DGPS as well as the Initiative Psychology in Environmental Protection e.V. concerning the teaching in Environmental Psychology in Germany. Initially it looks on the origin of teaching in Environmental Psychology. Furthermore results from a survey among teachers are reported concerning the present situation. Currently courses with Environmental Psychology as content are offered in 17 departments, but the tendency points towards a decline which is likely to increase in the course of restructuring from Diploma to Bachelor and Master. An online-survey among 320 students of all Psychology departments throughout Germany shows, that Environmental Psychology as a subject is known to approx. one third of the students. Following their spontaneous associations the subject soonest can be described as "Psychology in Environmental Protection" and it is seen as reasonable that Psychology contributes to socially relevant themes. Finally, based on the surveys, action-guiding perspectives are discussed. A possibility can be a stronger profiling concerning the contribution to socially significant themes like environmental protection and inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration.
