Abstract:One of the great challenges of our century is the fundamental transformation of central societal socio-technological systems with the aim of decarbonisation. Where does environmental psychology want to locate itself within this process? Because societal transformation processes are less individual than collective change processes, environmental psychology needs a new additional meta-theoretical focus on group and identity formation processes. Aim of the present contribution is the development of first concretions such a research program as well as its connection to already existing social-psychological theory lines which could be used as starting points for such an enterprise.
